Pessagno Winery, Syrah Idyll Times Vineyard San Benito County 2007

Pessagno Idyll Times Vineyards Syrah 2007Tasted: September, 2010

Out of dozens of wineries in the area, Pessagno was one of the first few I visited.  At the time, they were pouring their 2007 Syrah from Idyll Times Vineyard.  San Benito county is hot, hot and hot.  In the midst of growing season, daytime temperature could soar into the upper 90s, and even in three digits.  As soon as sunset, the air drops dramatically allowing the vines to do their magic.   This drastic fluctuation in condition resulted in this amazing wine, a wine that had me falling for San Benito County Syrah.

Dark opaque purple hue running down on my glass while exploding bouquet of blackcurrant, ripen plum and vanilla. Its vibrant viscosity suggests this wine packs a punch.  This wine was not only good, but it was singing to me with all the right tunes.  Rich and seductive texture on the mouth, mid-palate showcased firm full-body structure layered with very ripe dark fruits, cinnamon and toasted spice followed by breath-taking finish of sweet oak and just slight effervescent of herb -perhaps, sage or tomato leaf.  I can still taste the finish a minute after.  It is possibly the best Syrah coming out of Pessagno so far, I wish I purchased more than just 2 cases.
