South Africa Wine Map

Geography & Climate

The Coastal Region is the heart of South Africa’s wine making industry. The beautiful coastal wine region takes its climatic stimuli from both the ocean and the mountains, making it ideal for vine growing. Being such a large area, there is an abundant diversity of soil types found throughout. Renowned for its contrasts in beauty, the hot sandy beaches, the wild mountains and a rich fauna, it is the home of the most exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon wines, covering 12% of its whole wine production. Shortly followed by Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Pinotage, the coastal region has a huge variation of grapes.  Tygerberg, Constantia, and Cape Point are just a few of the contributors to fine wine making in the region.
