Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa Valley 2007
Tasted: Oct 2012
Not cheap at close to $200 bottle, rated 97+ and beautifully crafted. Joseph Phelps has long been a great name in Napa Valley Wine Country. Its signature series: Insignia has been rated consistently in the 90+ point range both by critics and wine lovers alike. The 2007 vintage has been even better; what an extraordinary wine!
Dark purple hue glowing as this wine slid down the decanter wall, we were smacking our lips in anticipation. We let it air in the decanter for over an hour. This Bordeaux style blend with predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon couldn’t have done better at making Napa Valley proud. Full of dark fruits without being syrupy, ripe plump and dark cherry rushed through followed by unmistakable chocolate and roasted coffee undertone, perhaps a dust of anise spice. Hint of sweet-oak rounds off this wine beautifully. This wine has incredible finish, it still lingers long after each sip.
