Tasted June 2014

With little introduction needed, Opus One has long been an iconic symbol for many of Napa Valley giants.  Modeled after the craftsmanship of Bordeaux Chateaus and it is no  Second Growth.  While many wineries in the valley variety of wines appealing to an array of tastes and palates, Opus One stays true to Bordeaux tradition and only offers 2 wines: a second tier wine, known as Overture and its flagship, world famous and highly sought after: Opus One.  We were beyond ecstatic to enjoy a complimentary Industry Tasting.

A dense purple “nectar” coats the glass, its tears roll down slowly promising a taste like no others.  Captivating bouquet of cassis, tea box, earth, sweet spice and dried lavender soar on the nose, rich dark fruit with trace of gravel then fill in on the palate in perfect harmony. Powerful, intense but no lack of finesse, incredible silky tannin delivers and toasted oak set for a very elegant finish.  Each sip to tell a different story. 2010 was a great year in Napa Valley, Opus One captured the terrior flawlessly.  Enjoy this wine with great company now, or it will last over another decade in the cellar.
